PROGRAM:
Day 1: Cusco / Urcos / Ocongate / Tinki (3,800 m / 12,467 ft) – Lodge
After breakfast, transfer by private bus to the southeast of Cusco toward the village of Tinki, located in the Ocongate District, Quispicanchi Province (approximately 4–5 hours). Along the way, we pass through beautiful and picturesque Andean villages. Tinki has a very cold climate and is located at an altitude of 3,800 m / 12,467 ft. The village offers basic accommodations, restaurants, and shops. Overnight at a local lodge.
Day 2: Tinki / Upis (4,435 m / 14,551 ft)
Today we begin hiking along a well-defined trail leading to the first campsite called Upis (approximately 4 hours). The route has a gentle ascent. There are natural hot springs available at the campsite.
Day 3: Upis (4,435 m / 14,551 ft) / Arapa Pass (4,757 m / 15,607 ft) / Atún Pucacocha Lake (4,585 m / 15,043 ft)
After breakfast, we begin our hike and ascent to Arapa Pass (4–5 hours). Along the route, we will see local shepherds raising alpacas and llamas. Camp will be set on the shores of Pucacocha Lake.
Day 4: Pucacocha Lake (4,585 m / 15,043 ft) / Palomani Pass (5,165 m / 16,946 ft) / Base Camp (4,400 m / 14,436 ft)
We depart very early because this day is slightly longer than the others. We hike for approximately 4–5 hours, descending and ascending to reach the highest pass of the trekking circuit, Palomani Pass. After crossing the pass, we descend for about one hour to the Base Camp of the normal climbing route.
Day 5: Base Camp (4,400 m / 14,436 ft) / Moraine Camp (4,950 m / 16,240 ft)
Today we carry climbing equipment and supplies to Moraine Camp (3–4 hours).
Day 6: Moraine Camp (4,950 m / 16,240 ft) / Ausangate Summit (6,372 m / 20,906 ft) / Moraine Camp (4,950 m / 16,240 ft)
The long-awaited summit day has arrived. We depart very early to take advantage of the best snow conditions. We climb via the normal route, encountering snow and ice slopes ranging from 45° to 65° near the summit. Approximate climbing time: 7–8 hours. Return to Moraine Camp.
Day 7: Moraine Camp (4,950 m / 16,240 ft) / Base Camp (4,400 m / 14,436 ft)
Return to Base Camp.
Day 8: Base Camp (4,400 m / 14,436 ft) – Free Day
Rest day. Time to dry equipment and clothing before continuing the trek, or it may be used as a reserve day in case of weather delays.
Day 9: Base Camp (4,400 m / 14,436 ft) / Campa Pass (5,068 m / 16,627 ft) / Ninaparayoc Lake (4,656 m / 15,276 ft)
We begin hiking through a valley until reaching Uchuy Finaya (4,200 m / 13,780 ft). We then continue to Campa Pass and descend to camp. Hiking time: 5–6 hours.
Day 10: Ninaparayoc Lake (4,656 m / 15,276 ft) / Pacchanta (4,400 m / 14,436 ft) – Hot Springs
After breakfast, and nearly completing the trekking circuit, we arrive at the small village of Pacchanta, where natural hot springs provide the perfect opportunity for a relaxing bath. Hiking time: 3–4 hours.
Day 11: Pacchanta (4,400 m / 14,436 ft) / Tinki (3,800 m / 12,467 ft) / Cusco
After approximately 3–4 hours of hiking, we arrive in Tinki and continue by vehicle back to Cusco.
