DISCOVER THE WORLD’S LARGEST SALT FLATS
The spectacular Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat on Earth, covering more than 10,000 square kilometers of dazzling white desert in the Bolivian Altiplano. This extraordinary natural wonder offers surreal landscapes, endless horizons, and unforgettable scenery that changes dramatically with the seasons.
During the dry season, the salt flats resemble a giant white mirror stretching to infinity, while in the rainy season they transform into one of the world’s most incredible natural reflections, where sky and earth appear to merge together.
The Uyuni region is also famous for its colorful lagoons, giant cactus islands, unique Andean wildlife, and important lithium reserves. Combined with the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding highlands, this destination creates one of the most iconic travel experiences in South America.
FULL DAY ITINERARY – SALAR DE UYUNI
(Approx. 3,656 m / 11,995 ft)
Your adventure begins with an early departure in a private 4×4 vehicle toward the famous Train Cemetery, where abandoned steam locomotives from Bolivia’s historic railway era create a fascinating and photogenic desert landscape.
We then continue to the small village of Colchani, a traditional community dedicated to salt extraction and local handicrafts. Here, you will observe the artisanal salt-processing methods used by local families for generations.
During the excursion, we visit several highlights of the salt flats, including:
- The historic Salt Hotel
- The fascinating “Water Eyes” — natural saltwater springs emerging from beneath the salt crust
- The archaeological area of Coquesa, where a short walk allows us to observe ancient Andean mummies and enjoy impressive views of the surrounding landscapes
The journey continues across the immense white expanse of the salt flats, offering spectacular opportunities for perspective photography and panoramic views unlike anywhere else in the world.
Later, we arrive at Incahuasi Island, also known as Fish Island, famous for its giant cacti — some over a thousand years old — and breathtaking 360° views across the endless salt desert.
A local lunch will be served during the tour before returning to Uyuni in the afternoon.
