Inca Trail Trek 4Days / Machu Picchu

 It is one of the most important trekking routes in South America, in the route there are numerous streams and courses of waters of glacial origin. Among the twelve archaeological monuments that can be seen, Qoriwayrachina, Patallaqta, Runkuraqay, Sayaqmarca, Phuyupatamarca, Intipunku, Intipata and Wiñayhuayna stand out.
The most popular route starts at km 82 of the Cusco-Machu Picchu railway (40 km until you reach the citadel of Machu Picchu).

Itinerary

Day 1 Cusco / Km. 82 / Wayllabamba (3,300 m / 10,827 ft)

Pick up from the hotel and transfer to Chilca 2,680 m (8,792 ft) (Km. 82) via Chinchero, where we will complete the corresponding controls and meet all the professional staff who will make our trip a complete success. We begin our hike along the Urubamba River until reaching Llactapata, an important archaeological group, where we will have lunch and then continue to our first campsite at Wayllabamba 3,300 m (10,827 ft). After a comforting dinner we will spend the night there.

Elevation Gain: + 620 m / + 2,034 ft (approx. duration 4/5 hrs)

Day 2 Wayllabamba / Pass (4,200 m / 13,780 ft) / Pacaymayu (3,500 m / 11,483 ft)

We will have a hearty breakfast to overcome the great challenge of the day. We will begin the hike ascending very slowly until reaching the first pass (Warmiwañusca) at 4,200 m (13,780 ft). From this place there is an impressive view of two geographical panoramas: mountains and snow-capped peaks, and also the beautiful semi-tropical valley. With this wonderful view we will have lunch before continuing the descent to Pacaymayu 3,500 m (11,483 ft), our second campsite.

Elevation Gain/Loss: + 900 m / + 2,953 ft and – 700 m / – 2,297 ft (approx. duration 6/7 hrs hiking up and down)

Day 3 Pacaymayu / Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft)

We will begin ascending to the archaeological site of Runkuraqay and then continue to the second pass at 3,900 m (12,795 ft), where we will find important remains of the Inca Culture. We continue our journey to Sayacmarca where we will have lunch, and then observe how the geography changes from dry and mountainous to green semi-tropical cloud forest. Along this route we will find the archaeological group of Phuyupatamarca. Afterwards we will arrive at our last campsite, Wiñaywayna 2,650 m (8,694 ft).

Elevation Gain/Loss: + 400 m / + 1,312 ft and – 1,250 m / – 4,101 ft (approx. duration 7/8 hrs hiking up and down)

Day 4 Wiñaywayna / Machupicchu (2,400 m / 7,874 ft) / Cusco

We will wake up very early and after breakfast begin our journey towards Intipunku, where we will witness the fabulous sunrise of the Sun God and at the same time enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the Citadel of Machu Picchu 2,400 m (7,874 ft). Then we will descend and tour this magical place full of energy and culture, with a guided visit to the enclosures, plazas, sacred fountains, temples, towers, agricultural and urban sectors. There will be free time for an optional climb to Huaynapicchu 2,667 m (8,750 ft). In the afternoon we descend by bus to Aguas Calientes (2,050 m / 6,726 ft), where we will have lunch, and then return to the city of Cusco by train.
